Tru-Pos Locators: Precision in Action
Tru-Pos Locators from LaVezzi Precision are the single most accurate way to determine the true position of tapped holes. Utilizing a proprietary design, Tru-Pos Locators precisely meet ANSI / ASME Y14.5M guidelines for measuring position and orientation tolerances of tapped holes. Other systems – gage pins, screw heads or tap shanks – are often inaccurate because they do not reference the pitch diameter. This can cause a misleading reading, making an "in- tolerance" hole seem "out-of-tolerance." Using Tru-Pos Locators, your inspection department can adhere to specifications with correct gaging methods and achieve a faster thru-put on the CMM. We have more than 300 sizes of Tru-Pos Locators in stock ready for immediate delivery. Or we can create a custom solution for you. Just contact us.

Why use a locator to determine the location of a threaded hole? Our current method is cheaper and just fine.
Inspection methods must ensure that your parts meet or exceed specification. Checking the hole location with a gauge pin, a steel ball, a screw with a machined head or a probe tip is inaccurate since the pitch diameter is not referenced as specified in ANSI / ASME Y14.5M.
If my threaded hole is oversized, will the Tru-Pos Locator function properly?
Yes! When the locator is seated, the upward force exerted against the thread flanks causes the locator to position itself on the centerline of the tapped hole.
Are Tru-Pos Locators difficult to use?
No! Tru-Pos Locators are ground .0001" under your go gage size for easy finger-tight insertion, thereby improving productivity while preventing sore fingers. The knurled surface is placed at the top of the locator, making it easier to grip. Since your CMM will probe closer to the surface, Tru-Pos Locators are ground to the base of the locator, providing a more accurate measurement of the tapped hole.
Why aren't your locators split, like other designs?
Material fatigue, excessive installation force, etc., play a vital role in the repeatability of locating gages. Tru-Pos Locators were designed to provide a reliable method in which repeatability is constant.
Are special sizes or configurations available?
Special sizes and configurations can be manufactured to meet your unique requirements. Please contact us with your specifications for a quote. Are certifications of compliance or calibration available?
Yes. Please specify at time of order. Tru-Pos Locators can also be recalibrated for a nominal service charge.
We already use locators. Why switch to Tru-Pos Locators?

Repeatability
Improved productivity
Better accuracy
Special configurations available
How much oversize can the pitch diameter be?
It really depends on the coarseness of the thread and can only be answered on a case- by-case basis.
How repeatable are your locators?
Tests at LaVezzi and a third-party testing lab have proven that the straight Tru-Pos Locators are repeatable within .0001" and the tapered Tru-Pos Locators are repeatable within .0002".
